Making Your Gold Jewelry Shine

Take your gold jewelry back to its original aesthetic appeal by shining it at home. Gold is one of the few metals that does not tarnish, but it can get dirty. It is easy to clean, though, with products that you can find at home.

If you are dealing with a plain piece of gold that is not embellished with stones or other metals, you can clean it in a bowl of warm water mixed with mild dish washing detergent. Let it soak for about twenty minutes then dry it with a clean cloth. If you are cleaning jewelry with gemstones, dampen a cloth with the cleaning mixture and gently dab it onto the jewelry. Once you are finished, you can hang the piece upside down to let it air dry.

How to Clean Your Engagement Ring

With a little bit of effort, you can clean your diamond jewelry at home. This video shows you how to mix ¼ cup of ammonia with one cup of warm water and place the ring in the solution for twenty minutes. Protect your hands with gloves when you remove the ring and place it into another bowl of warm water mixed with dishwashing liquid. Use an old toothbrush with a soft bristle to scrub the ring, then rise it in warm water and leave on a clean paper towel to dry.
