Preserving Your New Leather Furniture

Leather is a stylish and durable material to use in any room of your home. If you add some leather furniture to your home décor, use the following tips to keep it in top condition:

Keep It Away from Direct Sunlight

Excessive exposure to direct sunlight might cause your leather furniture to fade or to crack. When looking for the perfect place to put your leather pieces, try to find an area that does not get it with direct sunlight. If this is not possible, you should invest in some quality window treatments that enable you to protect your leather from the sun.

Dust the Leather

One of the only maintenance requirements of leather furniture is regular dusting. Use a soft cloth or your vacuum attachment to get rid of dirt and dust on the surface of your leather furniture. If you do spill anything on the material, you should use a soft cloth to blot it up as soon as possible to prevent permanent stains.

Use a Conditioner

If you want your leather to maintain its soft, supple feel, it is important to use a leather conditioner once every six months. Before you use the product on visible surfaces, you should test it out on a small, inconspicuous area of the furniture to make sure it does not cause any damage. Once you know that it is safe, you can use a clean cloth to condition the leather.

Switch the Cushions Periodically

You can switch the cushions on leather sofas to prevent uneven wear and tear. If your cushions are reversible, you should try to flip them over every few months. You can also switch the position of the cushions if you tend to sit on one side of the sofa more than another side.
